Building an Easy Compost Bin For Every Gardening Enthusiast
By T. J. Lashley

A compost bin is quite essential for gardening and if you are the least bit handy, building one is really quite easy. If you want to provide your plants with non-chemical, but natural nourishment then you will want to make a compost bin for your home garden use. This handy item helps in so many ways and one of the ones that most people are aware of is that these bins help to free your home from household and garden waste while providing you with an inexpensive source of nourishing food for your little baby plants.

Make yourself resourceful by building a compost bin on your own. There are just a few steps that you can easily follow. So if you want to give it a try, here is one set of basic instructions.

Materials

* 12 x3 lengths of 2 x 2 inch wood for post
* 30 x 3 feet lengths of 3 1/2 x 3/4 inch timber for back and side boards
* 6 x 3 feet lengths of scrap wood for support
* 12 x 3 feet lengths of 1 x 1 inch timber for front panels battens
* 30 x 3 feet lengths of 6 x 1 inch timber for front boards
* Galvanized nails
* Hammer
* Timber preservative
* Paintbrush

Steps

Build the first side by resting two posts in the ground parallel to each other. Nail in the side boards, butting them up against each other. Build the second side in the same process.

Position the two sides erect and hold them in place by nailing one of the lengths of the wood scrap across the tops of the back posts. Nail in the lowest back board then nail another wood scrap across the tops of the front posts to maintain the structure square and firm.

Nail on the remainder of the back boards, butting them up against each other.

For the front, nail two battens perpendicularly to one side of every front post to make a channel for the boards. Slide on the primary board and nail it an angle to the battens to even-out the bottom. Incorporate additional boards as the compost level builds up then slide them out as needed to remove decomposed compost.

Paint your finished bin whether one or two coats using timber preservative wearing durable gloves. Dry the preservative thoroughly before you start to use the bin.

When successful, building and using your very own kitchen compost bin can sure make a difference in your gardening victory! Here's to a bountiful garden where healthy organic vegetables rein supreme!
