Amazon says Boyle CD largest pre-order in history

Susan Boyle shot to fame following her appearance on "Britain's Got Talent" in April 2009 singing "I Dreamed a Dream" from Les Miserables. Her performance was quickly posted on Youtube and instantly went viral, reaching millions of viewers around the world in days, and nearly 100 million within the first nine days alone--setting new records.

Boyle's plain appearance and unpolished responses to the TV judges questions led the audience to assume she would be rapidly voted out of the contest--but after hearing only a handful of soaring notes, jeers became cheers, and the entire audience was on its feet, many in tears.

Viewers around the world were equally captivated by this unassuming woman from a small village in Scotland who had always wanted to be a singer, but said that she just "never got the chance" before. Boyle's story--a few sound bytes of information about her taking care of her aging parents, living alone with her cat, Pebbles, and an off-hand humorous comment that she had never been kissed--soon filled the British tabloids and reached across the ocean to attract many mainstream American media stars including Larry King and Oprah, who lined her up for interviews.

Her unparalleled ascent to super-stardom was difficult to handle. After coming in second to the dance troupe Diversity on Britain's Got Talent, Boyle spent several days in a private clinic resting out of the spotlight before joining the other acts on a concert tour of Britain. She moved from her modest home in Blackburn, West Lothian to an apartment in London, and has been working on her first record album, due to be released in the U.S. on November 24. It has also been reported that she will come to the U.S. for a concert tour.

Boyle's avid fan base continues to grow. When her first CD was listed on Amazon.com at the beginning of September, within three days, pre-orders of the CD brought it to the #1 music spot, nearly three months prior to its release.

Amazon.com has announced that Susan Boyle's upcoming album, "I Dreamed a Dream," has become its largest global pre-order in the history of the online retail giant.

The album will be released by Sony Music Entertainment on November 23. Boyle became a reality show and Internet sensation after her April 11, 2009 appearance on the TV show "Britain's Got Talent," where she sang "I Dreamed a Dream" from "Les Miserables."

"We were excited when Susan Boyle's album became the top CD pre-order in the U.S. We're absolutely ecstatic now that the album has become our largest global CD pre-order," said Craig Pape, senior manager of Music at Amazon.com.

"Looking at the rest of our global Top 5, you see titles that resonated in their local markets. Susan's album is clearly capturing the hearts of our customers around the globe."
