I was a solicitor (lawyer) for 23 years, working primarily in family law, which is widely recognized as the most stressful of all the areas of law. I was well regarded in his field. I have a law degree. Chronic stress led to depression and anxiety and I eventually left the law in 1998. A period of running a strategic business consultancy followed, but I was still suffering the after-effects of stress, and I found it unfulfilling. Before I left, however, he gained a Diploma in Business Excellence. Subsequently, I was able to discover and apply to myself the secret of building resilience to stress and began to study the subject in considerable depth. For a short time, I worked as manager of a charity, the sole aim of which was to recruit, train and support volunteers as citizen advocates for people with learning difficulties. This led to my studying performance coaching, and later life coaching. Throughout the period after leaving the strategic business consultancy, I was either conceiving the idea or working on developing a course on stress management and building resilience. By the time I began my studies of life coaching, it was in its first edition. Since then, however, it has been revised and refined. Meanwhile, I achieved a Diploma in Life Coaching. Among my current projects, I am writing a book on all aspects of stress. This is a long-term project, not least because I am spending more time revising existing chapters as news of the latest research comes to my notice, than writing new chapters. However, the book provides material for a newsletter that I publish monthly, and distribute by email. That newsletter, named “Success Story”, is a high-quality production, containing summarized material from the book, stress and coaching tips, and brief reports on the latest news in the field of stress and general health issues. In spite of its high value, it is published free of charge, at present. Having recently had a minor
operation in Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Kings Lynn, I now
have an affinity with and concern for nurses, and am now
targeting my stress management coaching at helping nurses
reconnect with their passion for their profession. Back |
