Foods That Heal - What You Eat Can Cut Your Risk For Cancer - Heart Disease And Other Health Problem

by Susanne Myers

Healthy eating is important because eating healthy reduces your risk of disease. Scientific evidence shows that consumption of saturated fat, trans fat, and dietary cholesterol raises low-density lipoprotein (LDL), or "bad cholesterol," levels, which increases the risk of coronary heart disease (CHD).

High blood levels of cholesterol and triglycerides (blood fats) can lead Sudden death from heart disease or stroke without any signs or symptoms.

By choosing a healthy eating plan you can dramatically improve your overall health quotient. The food that we to eat can affect healthier cells, better digestion and improve the way nutrients are assimilated in our bodies which will increase energy and vitality.

Several types of cancer are associated with obesity. In women, these include cancer of the uterus, gallbladder, cervix, ovary, breast, and colon. Overweight men are at greater risk of developing cancer of the colon, rectum, and prostate.

Many individuals eat an adequate amount of foods, but are not eating the foods that provide the nutrients the body needs for optimum health. What you eat is more important than how much you eat. A healthy eating plan emphasizes fruits, vegetables, whole grains, fat-free or low-fat milk or equivalent milk products. Fruits and vegetables are packed with nutrients but have very few calories.

Nutrients play a critical role in your overall health quotient. Vitamins and minerals are the most basic and important nutrients. Fat, proteins and carbohydrates also provide nutrients but have less vital nutrients. Nutrients can come from dietary supplements but these supplements lack the additional benefits that nutrient dense foods supply to the body.

It is important that you meet your recommended nutrient needs because they provide for the normal growth and development of children. Nutrients also promote health and vitality for people of all ages.

It is important to eat the types and amounts of food that will promote health and help prevent chronic diseases. You could use up all of your calories on a few high-calorie fast food meals or high calorie milk shakes without getting the full range of nutrients the body needs to be healthy.

Eating fruits and vegetables may reduce the risk of several chronic diseases. People who eat them daily as part of a healthy diet reduce their risk of chronic diseases, including stroke. Some studies suggest that certain fruits and vegetables protect the heart cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes, and cancers.

Choose the most nutritionally rich foods each day. Choose foods that are loaded with vitamins, minerals, fiber, and other nutrients. Choose foods that are high in nutrient value but lower in calories. Pick foods like fruits, vegetables, dry beans and peas, whole grains, and fat-free or low-fat milk and equivalent milk products more often.

Include lean meats, poultry, fish, beans (legumes), eggs, and nuts in your diet..

Pick one aspect of your diet to work on at a time. Start slowly to increase your intake of fruits and vegetables. Find the process of eating healthy that works for you. The process does not have to happen all at once. The important aspect of your eating plan is that you start to eat healthier.
